Kershaw Chardonnay (Clonal Selection) 2023

Kershaw Wines Clonal Selection Elgin Chardonnay is a mineral, high-precision expression of cool-climate Elgin from Richard Kershaw MW, South Africa's only winemaking Master of Wine. Assembled from eight small parcels within the vineyard, the wine shows complex aromas of lemon, gardenia, chalk and powdered rock, leading into an incredible depth of flavour and concentration on the palate. Incisive acidity underpins the wine's mineral texture, with creamy lemon notes carrying through to a long, exquisite finish. Hand-picked, gently whole-bunch pressed and moved to barrel entirely by gravity, the juice undergoes spontaneous fermentation with malolactic fermentation discouraged, followed by extended lees ageing that builds further texture and depth. A rare, tiny-production wine from one of South Africa's most cerebral producers, classed as a First Growth in the South Africa Report by Tim Atkin MW.
